My 2014 Kia Sportage 2.0l petrol, the engine has been burning engine oil for about 1 1/2 year, and the oil turns to black very quick. Also the new spark plug gets black and doesn't last long (5 months) and is worn out a lot. Just a week ago an engine check light was on. I saw on YouTube people use B-12 Chemtool Fuel Injector to soak the engine, and someone keeps putting it into the fuel tank to clean up the injector and the other parts. May I ask your profession for advice if there any other product and which way is better to solve my engine issue?
Thank you very much!

Thanks for your interest in Berryman. The best way to attack the problem of burning oil is to decide if you think this is a problem with the oil control rings or the compression rings.
If you need to clean up the oil control rings, I would put 1½-2 fl oz per quart of oil capacity of Berryman B-12 Chemtool Fuel Injector Cleaner (part #0116) into the crankcase when the engine cold. Then, run the engine for about 10 minutes at idle and check the oil to see if you need to change the oil and filter.
If you’re looking at cleaning up the compression rings, I would recommend trying Berryman B-12 Chemtool Total Fuel System Cleanup (part #2616), which is our strongest detergent-based fuel additive. This product is available from Amazon and is $13 as I’m typing this.
If those methods don’t work, or if you simply prefer to start out with the piston soak, the best product to use as a piston soak is part #0116. Be sure to add enough cleaner to cover the entire piston crown with cleaner. With inline motors with vertical strokes (like most 4 cylinders and straight/inline 6s), this may only be 2 fl oz of B-12 Chemtool per cylinder.
To perform the soak, remove the spark plugs, add to the COLD combustion chambers enough B-12 Chemtool to cover the entire piston crown and rings, and put the spark plugs back in a couple threads in order to prevent evaporation of the solvents. The process will benefit from a little agitation, too, so if you can safely rock the vehicle from side to side occasionally, that will improve your results. You can also carefully bubble in a little air either from a compressor or an aerosol duster.
Regarding duration, we recommend soaking the pistons for at least 1-2 hours apiece. However, if leak-down is minimal, you can soak for much longer. Some users prefer to soak overnight, and that’s completely acceptable if your leak-down is minimal.
Once you’ve decided to end the soak, the cylinder will need to be evacuated of the cleaner/carbon mixture. You can do this any number of ways including with a vacuum pump or even a turkey baster (which should not be used again in the kitchen). Note that B-12 Chemtool will damage most automotive paint and clear coats, so be cautious around such finishes.
If you continue to have oil consumption issues, feel free to reach back out and we can discuss some other approaches.
