I recently purchased my first 5 gallon bucket of Chem-Dip professional (0905) after using the 1 gallon Chem-Dip (0996) for years. Upon opening and placing the strainer basket in the bucket I noticed a fair amount of gel churning up from the bottom. Is this normal? I mixed it in as good as I could and dipped a carburetor and when I pulled it out after 30 minutes the carb had the gel all over it. I also did not see the results that I get from the 1 gallon which I usually let parts soak in for a couple of hours. Did I get a bad or old product?

Due to the aggressive nature of the product, the container’s corrosion-resistant liner often will soften and fall to the bottom of the can. Many customers who use the dip basket never notice this as the liner just sits on the bottom of the can. Either way, it is an aesthetic matter that does not affect the performance of the product.
As for stirring/mixing, 0905 should never be intentionally shaken, stirred, mixed, agitated, or aerated; instead, the basket should always be gently raised and lowered in order to keep the two phases of the product well-separated. Stirring the product can temporarily reduce efficacy.
Once the product has separated, you might try soaking again. Remember, part #0905 is very aggressive towards many types of plastic, rubber, and paint but is completely safe for extended soak times with all metals.
