If you’re leaving the carburetor on, protect any painted or otherwise sensitive surfaces from overspray. With the engine running and the transmission in neutral, use short bursts of Berryman B-12 Chemtool Carburetor, Choke & Throttle Body Cleaner (part #0117) on all accessible surfaces, including the choke plate, bore, and linkage.
If you’re taking the carburetor off, thoroughly saturate it inside and outside with 0117 a time or two. Depending on the condition and availability of replacement gaskets, you should take off the float bowl(s) and clean the inside of it/them up, too.
Alternatively, you might consider using a high-performance fuel additive instead. Berryman B-12 Chemtool Total Fuel System Clean-Up (part #2616) will clean the entire fuel system, including the gas tank, fuel pump, carburetor, and even combustion chambers.
