Sometimes when I start my Tahoe it will loudly pop as if there is a mini explosion. What is causing that? Other times it will start normally. When it does go through the "explosive" start I have to rev the engine to sort of get it back in sync.

It sounds like it could be a issue of backfire, in which case you likely have a maintenance issue. You might start by checking the condition of your spark plugs as well as the fuel/air mixture in order to see if it’s running too rich. When you have to rev the engine to get it to sync back up, do you see black smoke? If you give the Tahoe gas before trying to start it, try waiting until after it’s turned over several times. That may help (but not fix) the problem. The more often you hear popping, the greater the risk to the engine and exhaust system. Good luck!
