Is it true that the solvents in fuel injection cleaner like B-12 will increase the rate of upper cylinder (UC) wear unless a UC lube is used?

No, that’s not the case at all. Pump gasoline as-supplied has extremely low lubricity. When used at directed at 1 fl oz/gal (0.78%), B-12 Chemtool Fuel System Cleaner (part #0116) will have no measurable effect on lubricity or wear. Using an upper cylinder lubricant, either with or without B-12 Chemtool, is never a bad idea from a fuel economy standpoint, but it is by no means necessary or even recommended.
