I opened a one gallon can of 0901 cleaner and pour one cup of it in to a parts test container that I had placed a rocker arm. I soaked it about 14 hours with the 0901 it didn't remove the carbon. I did the same test with 0996 and in four hour it had removed the carbon. I looked over the MDS on both. My question is What is the shelf life of both products By shelf life I mean in the container unopened & open. Thank you for now

Berryman Professional Chem-Dip Carburetor & Parts Cleaner (part #0901) is a biphasic or two-layer product and is intended only as a replenisher for the larger 5-gallon size (part #0905). If you decanted or poured right off the top and didn’t soak the rocker arm in any of the bottom layer, then the part didn’t soak in the active portion of the product. (The top lay is a chemical seal that prevents evaporation of the bottom layer and serves as a corrosion inhibitor.)
To make better use of 0901, you might consider transferring all of the product to a re-sealable metal container and using it that way. However, please first read the warnings on the container (especially those pertaining to proper storage) and look over the MSDS, including sections 2, 4, 6, 8, and 11.
As for the shelf life of the two products, our formal response for unopened containers is generally 2 years. For 0996, though, it’s probably twice that long. For opened containers, shelf life will vary. Depending on frequency of use, 0996 could easily last 5 years if not used regularly. 0901 might not be good quite that long, mostly depending on storage conditions. In order to avoid compromising the metal container, 0901 must not be stored on concrete or metal floors/shelves.
