When I opened this can of product the chemical appears to have separated. Is there anything wrong with the product?

No. The separation you see is the water phase of this product. This water phase is much lighter than the chemical cleaning solvents, causing the floating effect or separation. The water phase serves two important functions. The first function is to act as a vapor barrier to prevent evaporation of the solvent-cleaning phase. The second function is to help rinse the cleaning solvent back to the container when the basket of parts is withdrawn from the bucket. The water phase also contains a rust inhibitor to retard oxidation of the bucket and aid in prevention of flash rusting of parts.
