When I dip aluminum carbs in Chem-Dip it leaves a gray film and changes the color of the carb. What's going on?

What you’re seeing is aluminum hydroxide slowly desorb from the surface of the carburetors. This occurs in some aluminum and aluminum alloys that are especially susceptible to chemical attack as a result of extended exposure to Chem-Dip (part #0996). This is the very reason for the directions recommending not soaking aluminum and aluminum alloy parts for more than 4 hours. The potential for this occurrence depends on multiple factors including thickness of the anodizing layer (for aluminum) or chromate coating (for alloys) and the length of soaking. The color change you’ve observed is permanent but should not affect the performance of the components.
Thanks for answering both of my questions in quick time!
I've been using Berrymans spray cleaner and fuel injector cleaner over the other products on the market and am glad to have the Chem-Dip,now that I have a better idea of how it works..it is stronger than I thought.
