Which Chem-Dip part number are you considering? Do you know the nature of the coating (ceramic, dry film, etc.)?
I was looking to use #0996 or #0905 cleaner to remove deposits, carbon and etc on pistons for an engine rebuild. Federal-Mogul’s adds a moly-graphite (DUROSHIELD®) piston skirt coating to reduce friction. From what I gather on a few google searches, its a dry film with resin as a base. Hope that helps.. Thanks!
We do not have any data regarding that specific coating and cannot attest to its chemical compatibility with either of our Chem-Dip products. However, you’re safer bet would be using part #0996. It is not as aggressive as #0905 and may require longer soak times to loosen the carbon, but #0996 is generally much gentler on sensitive components and coatings. (The exception is aluminum and aluminum alloys, which should not be soaked for extended periods of time.)
